Marlon Brando's one and only movie he directed (he also starred in it as well) was critically lambasted on first released and was commercial flop, too. These factors alone, apart from a troubled production, barred Brando from making another film. But his Western is highly interesting (especially the unusual choice of setting it near the sea) with a handful of great performances not just from him, but Karl Malden and Slim Pickens as well. The action and gunfights is handled very well, and the opening scenes in Mexico along with the revenge plotline no doubt inspired the Italian-made Spaghetti Westerns that would come along shortly.

Well, this is a Western where Marlon Brando star's and directs, so if you don't like his style of acting, chances are you're not going to enjoy this film much.
